Ladybird Books partners with Liberty Art Fabrics Interiors

London, UK  12th October 2015

At the culmination of the Ladybird Books centenary year, Penguin Ventures is delighted to have partnered with Liberty Art Fabrics Interiors on a gorgeous range of fabric and wallpaper designs that utilise elements of illustrations from three vintage Ladybird books.

Fabric designs, Gail's Garden 'Dawn' and 'Dusk' feature illustrations from Ladybird’s Garden Flowers whilst wallpaper, Charlotte 'Catherine Cream' is inspired by British Wild Flowers and Lime Wood 'Fairweather Green' and 'Bolsover Grey' by Trees.

Emma Mawston, Head of Design Interiors said: The Liberty Interior Design Studio were drawn to the amazing hand painted originals created for the vintage Ladybird Books.   The favourite Ladybird books of my childhood have been brought to life and transformed onto wallpaper for interior forests and fields of flowers, complimented beautifully by a sumptuous velvet created into a mythical garden bed for drapery and upholstery.’

The fabrics and papers will be available exclusively at Liberty and Liberty.co.uk from Nov 15th and retailers nationwide from January 2016.

Susan Bolsover, Head of Licensing and Consumer Products for Penguin Ventures said:  'Like Liberty, Ladybird books are synonymous with iconic, quintessentially British design and this partnership offers an opportunity for the original book illustrations to evolve and exist in an entirely new way.  We are delighted to be working in collaboration with Liberty during the 100th anniversary of Ladybird.'

The three non-fiction titles are from a popular series simply called 'Nature'  (series 536) which comprised 25 titles altogether.  The natural world was a key theme for Ladybird when this series was published between 1953-1979.  There was nothing else like it being published for children at the time and the well researched text and beautifully executed illustrations meant that these books appealed to adults as much as they did to children, with parents often using them as nature guides.

Penguin Ventures will be at BLE on Stand F060 come and say hello!
